Serious diet pills are intended for people who are overweight to the point of being considered obese. Therefore, they are known as anti-obesity drugs; and should not be used for quick, temporary weight loss.
Diet medications and supplements will not simply "melt" away all your unwanted fat and permanently solve any weight problem you might have. Most weight loss trials show that diet pills offer (at best) short term support.
You should use diet pills in combination with a simple plan for weight loss through regular exercise and an improved diet. Diet pills such as Phentermine provide appetite suppression, helping you focus energy on enjoying healthy foods rather than feeling starved of junk food.
Be careful of over the counter diet pills and other weight loss products. They are not regulated or controlled, and have been shown to contain ingredients that provide little or no benefits. Some have even been taken off the market because they pose a threat to your health.
Use caution with "herbal" and "natural" diet pills. These types of weight loss pills are not guaranteed to be more healthy or efficient just because they are made with supposedly natural ingredients. Many herbal ingredients of diet pills have been connected with many health problems such as heart failure.
Avoid diet pills advertised as "fat burning." Cardiovascular exercise is the best method for safely and directly increasing your metabolism; which will in turn naturally burn away fat!

When using any diet pill, you must follow the manufacturer's instructions, as well as your doctor's. This is for your own safety, as with any medication.
Don't continue using diet pills for longer than 4-6 weeks without permission from your doctor. You should also talk to your doctor about when to stop.
Potential Benefits of Diet Pills
When considering short term use, the benefits of weight loss may include improving overall health and lowering the number of health risks one faces when overweight. Clinical studies have shown that some diet pills decrease blood pressure & cholesterol, fats (triglycerides) and lower help your body use blood sugar more efficiently (lowering insulin resistance) with short term use. However, no studies have yet been performed, and they are necessary in determining whether weight loss with long term use of diet pills will improve overall health.
